What do art deco, malaria, and Paris Hilton wanna-bes have in common?

No, they are not just things that make you sick...

It's the 53rd annual ASTHM meeting in Miami Beach!
Although I know it's obvious, that's the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.

Yep I spent the last three days at the Fountainebleau hotel learning about the spread of nasty tropical diseases such as malaria and schistosomiasis, and the biology of the little critters that cause them. Sounds like fun, eh? The meeting might have been more impactful if it hadn't been taking place no less than 100 steps away from the white sands and sparkling blue ocean with 80 deg weather. I'm trying to convince myself that's why only 15 people showed up to my talk.

Miami Beach is an interesting place. I actually felt like I had been there before after hours of watching Dom play GTA:Vice City. Especially when I got hijacked in a limosine, and dropped off in a random strip mall in South Beach. (I wish I were kidding).
I've seen enough pastel decor and fake boobs for awhile, so I don't think I will be heading back there anytime soon.
